EMDR Therapy

Healing from Trauma: You Don’t Have to Think Your Way Out

An Alternative Approach to Therapy for Trauma, PTSD, and Anxiety

Dealing with past trauma can be overwhelming and draining. It’s time to finally get out of your head, and you don’t have to do it alone. Together, we’ll face the pain where it hides — in your body — with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy.

You’ll process difficult experiences, release intense memories, and reclaim safety and presence in your life.

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain reprocess traumatic memories so they feel less overwhelming and more neutral. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, like guided eye movements, gentle taps, or sounds, to change how your brain stores the memory.

You won’t forget what happened, but the memories won’t control you. You’ll remember the events without the intense fear, panic, or emotional flooding that once came with them.

What Makes EMDR Different

You don’t have to recount every painful detail of your trauma

Sessions are structured, focused, and safe

It is effective for recent trauma, childhood trauma, or long-standing PTSD

It can reduce anxiety, panic, and physiological stress responses

Often produces faster results than traditional talk therapy

It targets the trauma, not just the story you recall of the experience

The circle of Care

EMDR in a Collaborative Care Model

Healing doesn’t happen in isolation — your mind, body, and nervous system all deserve support. That’s why we practice collaborative care with your permission.

When you work with Nurture and Be, your EMDR therapist can coordinate with:

  • Our in-house medication management team of psychiatrists or PMHNPs for medication support when needed
  • OBs for birth trauma or postpartum anxiety
  • Chiropractors or functional medicine providers to address physical tension and nervous system dysregulation

This means your story only needs to be told once, and every provider is working together to help your body and mind fully heal. EMDR sessions don’t just process memories — they help your nervous system release stuck trauma, regulate your fight-or-flight response, and restore balance.

Couples Intensives & EMDR

Trauma often impacts your relationships. Extended couples sessions can:

  • Strengthen communication and connection

  • Allow individual EMDR work alongside relational healing

  • Support healthier, more grounded partnerships

When your nervous system and relationships are both supported, healing multiplies — helping you feel safer, calmer, and more connected to yourself and your loved ones.

Common Questions About EMDR

Will I have to relive my trauma?

You will revisit memories in a guided, supportive way — it can feel intense at times, but this is part of the healing process. EMDR helps you process and release the weight of these memories safely, so over time, they lose their power to overwhelm you. You’re always in control, and your therapist will move at a pace that feels manageable.

Does it really work with eye movements?

Yes. Eye movements, tapping, or gentle sounds guide your brain to reprocess memories safely. Your therapist will tailor the approach to what feels right for you.

Can I do EMDR virtually?

Yes! EMDR is effective through secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth. You’ll get the same support and safety as in-person sessions, from the comfort of your home.

Do I need to talk about every detail?

Absolutely not. EMDR works with your body and nervous system, not just your words. You choose what to share, and the processing happens at a physiological level, so you don’t have to relive every painful moment.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends. Some people notice relief in just a few sessions; complex or long-standing trauma may take longer. Your therapist will help you understand what to expect.

Is EMDR safe during pregnancy or postpartum?

Yes. We adapt EMDR to your needs, whether it’s birth trauma, pregnancy anxiety, or postpartum struggles. We can also coordinate with your OB to ensure your care feels seamless and supportive.
