My Open Letter to the High Achiever Who Is Tired of Holding It All Together

You don’t actually want a perfect life.

You just want it to feel like you can breathe in it.

And lately… it doesn’t.

You’re Doing Everything “Right”—That’s the Problem

You’re doing all the right things.

Showing up.
Holding it together.
Managing your roles.
Keeping everything moving.

You’re responsible.
Dependable.
The one people trust.

And you’ve built a life that reflects that.

From the outside, it probably looks like your life is working.

But inside?

It feels like:

  • your brain won’t slow down
  • you’re carrying too much
  • even the good moments feel… tight

Like you can’t fully drop into them.

Because even when things are good…

You’re still scanning for what’s next.

Nothing Is Wrong. And That’s What Makes It So Hard

Nothing is technically “wrong.”

Which makes it harder to name.

Because how do you explain:

  • feeling overwhelmed in a life you worked hard for
  • feeling anxious when things are objectively fine
  • feeling disconnected while still showing up for everything

So you turn it inward.

You think:

  • maybe I’m not doing enough
  • maybe I need to be better at this
  • maybe I should be able to handle this

You don’t slow down.

You optimize.

You’ve Built a Life Around High Standards

You don’t just show up.

You show up well.

You:

  • think ahead
  • anticipate problems
  • hold yourself to a higher bar than anyone else does
  • replay conversations
  • notice what could have gone better

Even when no one else is thinking about it anymore.

And it works.

It’s probably a big part of why you are where you are.

But it also means…

You don’t really get to rest.

You’ve Learned How to Hold Everything

But not how to put anything down.

You’re the one who:

  • anticipates needs
  • smooths things over
  • keeps things from falling apart
  • manages the emotional temperature in the room

Even when no one asked you to.

Even when you’re exhausted.

Because somewhere along the way, you learned:

If I stay on top of everything, things will be okay.

When Something Feels Off, You Feel It Fast

A moment doesn’t go how you expected.

Someone reacts differently than you thought.

A season feels slower, heavier, or more uncertain.

And instead of adjusting…

Your system goes into overdrive:

  • tension
  • frustration
  • self-blame
  • urgency to fix it

Because your default isn’t:
“this is hard”

It’s:
“what do I need to do to make this better?”

Control Has Become Your Safety

This isn’t a flaw.

It’s a strategy.

Your system learned:

Stability comes from staying ahead.

So when something doesn’t go to plan…

It doesn’t just feel inconvenient.

It feels unsettling.

Like you’re about to fall behind.

Like something is slipping.

The Shift (This Is the Work)

It’s not:

  • trying harder
  • doing it more perfectly
  • finally getting it “right”

It’s learning how to:

→ let things not go to plan
→ sit with discomfort without fixing it
→ stop absorbing what isn’t yours
→ release the constant internal pressure to perform

Because right now…

You’re not just living your life.

You’re managing it.

Optimizing it.

Monitoring it.

And Underneath All of It…

There’s a quieter truth you don’t always let yourself say:

You’re tired.

Not just physically.

But from:

  • holding yourself to impossible standards
  • carrying responsibility for everything around you
  • trying to do life well at all times

Even in seasons that feel hard.

This Is Where Therapy Actually Helps

Not surface-level.

Not just “talk it out.”

But the kind of work where you:

  • understand why your brain works this way
  • loosen the grip of perfectionism
  • stop over-functioning in relationships
  • feel less responsible for everything
  • experience calm without earning it

Because the Goal Isn’t Perfection

It’s not:
“have a perfect life”

It’s:

→ feel steady inside your real one

If This Feels Like You

You don’t have to keep figuring this out alone.

This is the exact work we do every day with women who look like they have it together…
but feel like they’re carrying too much underneath.
